CHRISTUS Cares through Teddy Bears

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in Southeast Texas recently provided the Day Surgery Unit with bunches of teddy bears!

Robin Gerhardt, St. Elizabeth’s Surgery Patient Advocate, gives the bears to our youngest patients to help provide a sense of comfort in an unfamiliar place. “The bears are important because they give our kids a sense of security and provide them with something to cuddle,” says Robin. “The kids can dress the bears up in surgery hats, put booties on them, and have something to occupy their time while waiting for surgery.” The bears were specially chosen because they do not have any loose or easy to remove parts that could be swallowed; They’re safe for all our patients and meet Federal Toy Safety Standards. Children’s Miracle Network is thrilled to provide these bears for the children who visit our Day Surgery Unit.
